Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed on Wednesday President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism, disclosing that the Federal Government has ordered advanced strategic weaponry to bolster military operations across the country.
Speaking during a visit to victims of recent attacks at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Vice President assured the nation that those responsible for the latest wave of violence would be decisively confronted. He emphasised that the administration’s response would be both kinetic and logistical.
Enhanced Logistics and Military Capability
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the Federal Government is significantly increasing its investment in military hardware. Beyond existing directives to security chiefs, the administration is prioritising the procurement of equipment and logistics to modernise the counter-terrorism framework.
The Vice President condemned the “barbaric” multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday. The coordinated attacks resulted in over 20 confirmed fatalities and left more than 100 individuals injured. Shettima stressed that no cause justifies the slaughter of innocent citizens.
Humanitarian Response and State Support
During his assessment of the injured, the Vice President extended the government’s sympathies to the bereaved families. He pledged comprehensive support through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the Borno State Government to ensure victims receive adequate care.
The Vice President was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Borno State Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar, and the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Professor Ahmed Ahijo.
