Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima has conveyed the condolences of President Bola Tinubu to officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other security forces, following the recent loss of lives in the fight against insurgency in Borno State.
VP Shettima made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the airport shortly after arriving in Borno State, where he expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of soldiers and described them as gallant heroes who paid the ultimate price for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
“On behalf of the President, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other allied forces. All the lives lost, our hearts bleed. We grieve with the families, and the nation grieves with them over the supreme sacrifices made by our gallant officers and men,” he said.
The Vice President noted that despite the painful losses, the country remains hopeful and determined to overcome insecurity, stressing that difficult times would eventually pass.
“But no matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of the dawn. We are absolutely certain that in the fullness of time, truth, justice and light will triumph over darkness and madness,” he said.
VP Shettima reaffirmed that the Federal Government remains fully committed to supporting the armed forces and families of fallen heroes.
According to him, “The Federal Government is firmly and resolutely behind our armed forces. We will continue to support them. We will continue to support the bereaved families. Our prayers are with the families of our fallen officers and men”.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and urged Nigerians to remain united, while extending condolences to Borno State and other affected states across the federation.
Expressing confidence in the nation’s resilience, the Vice President assured that Nigeria would ultimately defeat insecurity.
“We shall triumph in the end, by the grace of God,” he added.
