Federal Government has condemned the practice of casualization by private organizations in Nigeria describing it as exploitation, a threat to decent work and economic stability.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Mohammad Dingyadi stated this at the 2025 Annual Labour conference in Abuja.
Dr Dingyadi said the practice of casualization hinders national development, weakens economic growth, and violates workers’ rights.
The conference, with the theme “Local Content, Casualisation and Fair Labour Migration,” brought together policymakers, labour leaders and journalists to deliberate on fair and decent work practices.
Dingyadi said government would continue to deepen local content implementation, tackle casualisation, and promote fair labour migration to ensure decent work for all Nigerian workers.
The minister stated that Federal Government would continue to strengthen policies that protect workers and create jobs that guarantee dignity and fairness for all Nigerians.
Earlier, the Acting Chairman of LACAN, Patrick Abulu, called for fairer and more inclusive labour friendly environment in the country.
“As architects of a fairer future and voices for the voiceless in the struggle against poverty, we need homegrown solutions to poverty and inequality through fair labour recruitment and decent work practices” he stated.
Abulu advocated a system where Nigeria’s immense wealth is mobilised for the benefit of all Nigerians, not just a privileged few.
On casualization of workers, the LACAN Acting President emphasized that the practice undermines national development, fair employment conditions for workers.
The Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr Silas Agara, commended LACAN for providing a platform to discuss sustainable employment generation and decent work
Represented by Mrs Amezhi Apia, Director, Special Duties, Mr Agara said NDE had trained more than 33,800 youths and resettled 4,683 beneficiaries with start-up kits and soft loans.
She stated that NDE would continue to introduce initiatives towards reducing unemployment and poverty in the society by creating empowerment opportunities..
In a presentation, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) comrade Joe Ajero said any attempt to amend the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund and Employees’ Compensation Act would affect workers’ welfare and would be resisted.
