Security officials at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, have apprehended a man after he attempted to stow away on an Airways aircraft.
According to Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), he gained unauthorised access to the airport’s restricted operational area in the afternoon, believing that the aircraft was heading to the United States.
He attempted to hide between the aircraft’s tyres as it prepared to taxi for takeoff.
Achimugu disclosed the incident in a post on X, saying the quick intervention of security personnel prevented a potential tragedy.
The suspect has since been handed over to the airport police for further investigation and possible prosecution for trespassing and violating aviation safety protocols.
