AI & Impact

Why Data Unveiled Is Launching the ‘AI & Impact’ Desk

Artificial Intelligence is shaping decisions that affect agriculture, transportation, security, health, education, and governance. Yet in many African countries, there is limited public understanding of how these tools work, who controls them, and how they influence everyday life.

As a data-driven newsroom committed to revealing the stories behind the numbers, Data Unveiled is expanding its coverage to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI from a Nigerian and African perspective.

The new AI & Impact Desk will focus on:

  1. How AI is being deployed in Nigeria and Africa
We will examine innovations in agriculture, climate adaptation, public health, fintech, and digital governance.
  2. The societal risks AI creates
Including bias in algorithms, misinformation, data privacy concerns, and inequality in access to technology.
  3. Policy and regulation
We will analyze how governments, institutions, and regional bodies are preparing for the age of AI — and where the gaps are.
  4. Human stories behind AI decisions
We will highlight how AI affects farmers, jobseekers, students, civil servants, and vulnerable communities.
  5. Solutions and future possibilities
Showing how responsible AI can support development, strengthen institutions, improve transparency, and solve local problems.

This new section reflects our belief that the African public deserves clear, credible, and evidence-based reporting on emerging technologies. By combining investigative work, data analysis, and human-centered storytelling, the AI & Impact Desk aims to inform, empower, and shape public conversation on one of the most important technological transformations of our time.
