President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says Nigeria is now witnessing improved fiscal stability, stronger foreign reserves, a more efficient trade ecosystem, and increased investor confidence in the nation’s economic direction.
The President stated this on Tuesday, in his remarks at the official commissioning ceremony of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Corporate Headquarters, Abuja.
President Tinubu highlighted that the gains are not incidental but product of deliberate policy choices, sustained effort, and a firm commitment to doing what is right for the long-term prosperity of Nigeria.
“It is within this context that we commission this headquarters of Nigerian Revenue Service.
“Our direction is clear; a revenue system that rewards enterprise, supports growth and ensures that every contribution to the national purse is matched by feasible value for people. The early results are encouraging; fantastic. Mr Adedeji, thank you very much,” he said.
President Tinubu tasked the Nigeria Revenue Service to build trust, ensure fairness and demonstrate that government can be accountable, efficient and responsive.
Referencing the completion of the Nigeria Revenue Service Headquarters as a clear signal that Nigeria is moving beyond promises to tangible progress, President Tinubu said the edifice embodies a new standard of professionalism, transparency, efficiency, and service.
“The building is more than concrete and steel, it is a symbol of a new standard of professionalism, transparency, efficiency and service. It reflects our result that institutions must rise to meet the demand of reforms and the expectations of the Nigerian people.
“We must thank Nigerian people for enduring and persevering, for their resilience to date and to the Nigerian Revenue Service, you must embody this new ethos. It must not only collect revenue, it must build trust, it must ensure fairness. It must demonstrate that government can be accountable, efficient, responsive. It must become a model institution that earns confidence at home and respect abroad.
“The completion of this building, at this moment, is not by chance. It is a statement that Nigeria is no longer content with promises, we are delivering progress,” President Tinubu said.
The Nigerian Leader reiterated his pledge to citizens that his administration will confront structural weaknesses, restore fairness and build an economy anchored on discipline, equity and opportunity.
“On my inauguration day, I made a solemn pledge that we would move Nigeria from the dimness of uncertainty into the clear light of renewed hope. I committed that, that we will confront structural weaknesses, restore fairness and build an economy anchored on discipline, equity and opportunity.
“Today, I stand before you to reaffirm that these words were not rhetoric. They were a covenant with the Nigerian people.
“This project has endured through different phases of our national journey. Let the future be better than the past. Let’s hold that promise sincerely to the future. Let those who will come after us, politics apart, be ready to build on history that is greater than the vision of their forebears.
“History will not judge us by what we say, but by what we do, by the institutions we strengthen and the discipline we sustain,” he added.
President Tinubu said that his administration will stay the course of reform, discipline, and inclusive development, assuring that the government will remain steadfast and focused until Nigeria’s promise is matched by the performance of its institutions and the prosperity of its people.
Benefits of Good Governance
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as the insight and vision driving good governance in Nigeria, while urging citizens to embrace self-reliance and national discipline as critical drivers of the country’s progress.
Akpabio said Nigeria must rise through its own efforts rather than depend on external support, stressing that sustainable growth would arise from internal resolve and commitment.
He underscored the need for the nation to be guided by its own discipline, rather than external influences and called on citizens and leaders alike to strengthen their determination to build the country from within.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, said the project comprising sixteen floors across three towers with a capacity to accommodate over 3,000 people, goes beyond its impressive scale.
He noted that its true significance lies in what it represents: the delivery of an institution designed to serve not only the present generation but many more to come.
